Antigonish SPCA Logo

We advocate humane treatment of all animals. Companion animals in our care enjoy temporary care in volunteer foster homes while they await adoption. Priority is given to abused, injured and abandoned animals.

We promote awareness of responsible pet ownership, with spay/neuter of all companion animals encouraged. Adopting an animal from us creates a space for another animal needing help. Please donate as financing is essential for us to continue our work. We would like to thank InvestProp for helping us. Grateful for their continual support.

Visit our adoption center and take a tour of our site. If you are looking for a particular animal, or have questions, phone us at 982-463-2911 or email antspca @

The mandate of the Antigonish S.P.C.A. deals with:

Abused, abandoned, sick and/or injured animals. We do not deal with strays unless these fall into the above category. These animals are the responsibility of the town, county or municipality in which they reside.

Promotion of Humane Education and responsible pet ownership which includes spay/neuter unless you are a registered breeder with the Canadian Kennel Club or another Registered Kennel Club.

Providing humane euthanization of animals deemed to be in extreme distress, too severely injured, or other serious circumstances as determined to be in the animal’s best interest. Finding good adoptive homes for animals placed under our auspices.

One of our main priorities is to find loving homes for the many animals that find their way into our care. We try to match animals with people who are sincerely interested in making the commitment and take responsibility for caring for one of these animals. Please do not hesitate to contact us to find out more about the animals that are currently in our care.

  1. All cats and kittens that are adopted must be kept indoors unless they are on a harness and leash and supervised by their owner.  This is done for the feline’s protection.  Animals adopted from us have been rescued from one situation or another and should not be put at further risk.
  2. If an adult animal is adopted that has not yet been spayed or neutered, spay or neuter must be done within 30 days of the adoption.
  3. If a kitten or puppy is adopted they must be spayed or neutered by the age of six months.
  4. An animal adopted from us cannot be given to another person or euthanized without our permission.
  5. Adoption fees do apply.

Please make sure that you fully consider and are willing to adhere to these conditions when considering adopting a companion animal from us.
